Description
Valsartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (sometimes called an ARB).
Valsartan is used to treat high blood pressure?(hypertension) in adults and children who are at least 1 year old. Lowering blood pressure may lower your risk of a stroke or heart attack.
Valsartan is also used in adults to treat heart failure?and lower your risk of needing to be hospitalized, and to lower your risk of death after a heart attack
Dosing:?
The recommended starting dose of Valsartan is 80 mg once daily. The antihypertensive effect is substantially present within 2 weeks, and maximal effects are attained within 4 weeks. In some patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose can be increased to 160 mg and to a maximum of 320 mg.
Valsartan may also be administered with other antihypertensive agents
Common side effects may include:
- high potassium;
- headache, dizziness, feeling light-headed;
- flu symptoms, tiredness;
- cough;
- stomach pain, diarrhea;
- backpain, joint pain; or
- abnormal kidney test.
